Nicdali Rivera Calanoc: Intervew

Nicdali "Night Queen" Rivera Calanoc is a 25-year-old MMA fighter who was born in Chihuahua, Mexico she grew up spending time between Chihuahua, Mexico where her grandmother lived and her hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma where she and her family moved to when she was five-years-old.

As a child Nicdali did get picked on and even though she did not get into many fights the ones that she did participate in, ended in her favor.

Growing up Nicdali was a very good basketball player having played since the age of five, Nicdali nearly went on to play in college but she was not satisfied with any of the scholarships she was offered.

Her brother Richard Fernandez is a amateur MMA fighter who began trainng in boxing before she did. One of the guys who trained with Richard was Travis Calanoc, who would later become her husband. Nicdali joined her brother and her boyfriend at the time and bean training boxing. She trained in boxing for one year before beginning to train in MMA. Nicdali has also competed in Kickboxing where she is (1-0)

Nicdali trains at Extreme Combat with Underdawg's fight team in Tulsa Oklahoma where she is coached by Blake Haynes. She trains stand-up with her husband Travis and trains wrestling with UFC fighter Gerald Harris. Nicdali recently also spent some time training with Miesha at Urijah Faber's gym Ultimate Fitness in Sacramento, California. Nicdali credits Miesha for also helping her with her wrestling.

When I asked Nicdali what people say when they find out she is a fighter she replied, "People don't believe I fight, they say I'm too dainty and feminine to be a fighter." Aside from MMA Nicdali is also a Hair stylist, ring girl and a model.

Her professional MMA record is 6-4-0 she has fought at 125-pounds but now fights at 115-pounds. She is 5'3 and did even say that 105-pounds is a weight that she could make. Nicdali will fight for the first time in a year when she battles Summer White on Saturday. Her last fight was a loss to Sally Krumdiak. Summer will be making her pro debut and the fight will be in Puerto Rico for MAXXFC 11 "The Nightmare". The fight was scheduled to  be at 115-pounds but Summer weighed in eight pounds over, so it will be a 123-pound catch weight match.
