Roxanne Modafferi vs. Hitomi Akano



On Thursday December, 30 at Sengoku Raiden Championship's: Sengoku 15 "Soul of Fight" in Tokyo, Japan at The Ariake Coliseum.

#7 ranked 135-pound fighter Roxanne "The Happy Warrior" Modafferi battles #8 ranked fighter Hitomi "Girl Fight" Akano in a 135-pound professional MMA match.

Roxanne who was recently let go by Strikeforce is looking to bounce back from her devastating KO loss to Sarah Kaufman in their 135-pound championship match in October at Strikeforce: "Challengers 9"

Roxanne is a full time teacher who lives in Japan and teaches English to Japanese adults and children. She is originally from Massachusetts.

Roxy as she is known has had many impressive victories during her career including wins over #1 ranked 135-pound Strikeforce champion Marloes Coenen, #3 ranked 135-pound fighter Tara LaRosa, and she also holds two victories over MMA pioneer Jennifer Howe.

Hitomi is coming off of a recent loss to Miesha Tate in the Strikeforce 135-pound tournament championship match, after having had defeating Carina Damm in the opening round of the tournament.

Hitomi Akano holds victories over many ranked fighters which includes Miki Morifuji, Hiroko Yamanaka and Takayo Hashi, not to mention a victory over womens MMA pioneer Debi Purcell


The event is to feature around 10 MMA fights, 10 stand-up rules fights, 4-5 women's fights as well as three mixed martial arts fights between traditional martial artists. Dubbed "Soul of Fight", the event is planned to be  family friendly and festival-like.
HDNet is said to covering nine straight hours of the event live.
