#33 ranked 135-pound fighter Joann Nguyen (3-0-0) defeated #34 ranked 135-pound fighter Calie Cutler (4-1-0) by submission (arm triangle choke) in the third round of their 135-pound amateur MMA championship match.
Joann is a 5'3 twenty-eight year old fighter from Lansing, Michigan. She trains at East Lansing Underground MMA where she is coached by Matt Torres.
I asked Joann what got her started in MMA and this was her answer, "I wanted to lose weight. I hit a plateau with weight loss so I wanted to do kick boxing.. and I got into BJJ and loved it."
