Amanda Cooper defeats Kelly Fleury

On Saturday January, 19 2013 at Total Warrior Combat 15: "Mean Steak" at The Best Western Plus Hotel in Lansing, Michigan.

#4 ranked 125-pound fighter Amanda Cooper (7-3-0) defeated #11 ranked 125-pound fighter Kelly Fleury (5-2-0) by TKO (due to ground and pound) in the second round of their 125-pound amateur Championship match.

Amanda is a 5'3 twenty-one year old fighter from Fowlerville, Michigan who trains at Scorpion Fighting System in Howell, Michigan where she is coached by James Gray (her boyfriend) who is the owner and head coach at Scorpion Fighting System. Tim Farr is one of her striking coaches along with Steve Wedekemper. Chris Vish is my her wrestling coach.

I asked Amanda how long she has trained in MMA and what got her started, here is her answer, "In December it will be my two year mark of when I first stepped into the cage, I had been boxing on and off since I was 13 and boxing shows were getting very boring so my dad (who was training me at the time) asked me one night at the boxing gym if I ever wanted to do a MMA fight and he thought I would be good at it. and I at first told him I didn't think so but then by the end of the night I was convinced that I wanted to take just one fight to see were I stood. MMA was starting to get so popular and I could hardly get fans to go to my boxing matches so I told my dad yes and the next day he called me and said I had a fight in two weeks. I didn't train anything other then boxing and I fought Kathleen Albany and TKO'd her in the second round. I have been training wrestling, Jiu Jitsu and other mixed martial arts for over a year and a half now and I have improved a great amount in this time."
